For those that drive by this sight, they wouldn't know the history unless the get our of the car. This site is dedicated to the Wereth 11 Massacre of US African American Soldiers during WWII. It is a very sombering simple monument. Highly recommend attending the wreath ceremony every April.
First of it's kind in Europa: to African-American soldiers who died bravely in WWII.
On September 11, 1994, Hermann Langer erected a small stone cross to remember the eleven black G.I.s of the 333rd Field Artillery Battalion who were murdered by German SS after they had surrendered during the second day of the Battle of the Bulge. This new memorial, dedicated on May 23, 2004, honors their memory and all black G.I.s and segregated units who fought in Europe during WW II. It is believed that this is the only memorial of its type in Europe.

Un lieu hautement historique et symbolique WW2 de ce mémorial intitulé: "les 11 de Wereth", un lieu terriblement marqué par la cruauté, l'horreur, la torture et la barbarie humaine, le massacre de ces onze soldats noirs américains commis en décembre 1944 lors de la terrible bataille des Ardennes par l'armée allemande et notamment les Waffen-SS, ce crime qui fut si longtemps ignoré par les opinions publiques de chacun, des politiques, et autres historiens, qui grâce à une famille le montra aux yeux du monde entier, accessible par un petit chemin à travers les champs, pas de parking, à voir absolument pour ne jamais oublier si de passage dans cette belle campagne belge. R.I.P...!!!

Ho trovato questo memoriale per caso. Merita una sosta di riflessione per rispetto degli uomini che in questo luogo persero la vita per lasciare il mondo migliore di come lo trovarono.
