This statue stands in tribute to Barthélemy Charles Joseph Dumortier, a 19th century Belgian Member of Parliament, honorary Minister of State, botanist and member of Académie de Bruxelles. This legacy to the latter includes a complete national flora of Belgium in \Florula Belgica\. This monument depicts Dumortier standind, looking up to his right with his right hand across his chest and resting on his right breast. Behind him to the left, there is a small table in the shape of a lion in reference to his contribution to government. The statue stands atop a pedestal decorated with ferns, alluding to his contribution to botany. Not a must see in Tournai. Only if you have time.
