Just in front of the City Theatre (Stadsschouwburg) there is a statue of Papageno, the fictional character from Mozart's Magic Flute. This is a fun monument to find while browsing the streets of Bruges. This Papageno statue is a nice depiction of the bird catcher, holding his panpipes in his right hand and a small cage with his catch in the other. He is suitably dressed in a bird disguise, befitting of one seeking to charm, attract and capture birds. The statue does well to incorporate a comical nature of this character and it seems appropriated situated in front of the city theatre.

Dit mooi metalen kunstvoorwerp, refererend naar de figuur van de vogelvanger uit de Toverfluit van Mozart is gemaakt door Jef Claerhout en staat voor de voorgevel van de stadsschouwburg, een gebouw in neorenaissancestijl in de Vlamingstraat niet ver van de Markt.
Папагено, Брюгге, Бельгия В Брюгге, как в каждом приличном городе есть свой Оперный театр. А недалеко от театра есть очень милая скульптура, которая изображает мальчика с птичьей клеткой в одной руке и с дудочками (флейтами?) в другой, в шапке с головой птицы, с крыльями за спиной. Кто хоть немного разбирается в классической музыке сразу догадается, что это Папагено (Птицелов) – персонаж из оперы Моцарта «Волшебная флейта». Если помните сюжет этой оперы, то Папагено еще тот обманщик и плут. Вместе с принцем Тамино отправляется на поиски своих возлюбленных, с ними случаются разные приключения. Статуя находится на невысоком пьедестале, сама фигура примерно соответствует росту двенадцати-пятнадцатилетнего мальчишки. Автор этой скульптуры – бельгийский художник Джеф Клаэроут – создал ее в 1937 году.
