An interesting fountain in the Place du Grand Sablon. At it’s centrepiece is a sculpture of Minerva. The sculpture depicts Minerva seat on a bench holding a shield while surrounded by cupids. On the shield is a relief portrait Emperor Franz I and Empress Maria-Theresa of Habsburg Austria, which at the time rule modern day Belgium as part of Austrian Netherlands. A striking sculpture, but not in the best condition as many of the finer details have been worn away by time. At least it also dispenses drinking water.
