Europe Must Act is rated 3 out of 5 in the category international affairs. Read and write reviews about Europe Must Act. WHO ARE WE? Europe Must Act began as a call for change from a small team of NGO workers in Greece. Faced with an on-going, escalating humanitarian crisis in the Mediterranean, we came together to advocate for a new & humane EU Migration Policy to replace the broken EU-Turkey Deal. We represent NGOs, Political Leaders & Civil Society members who have called for decisive & radical change by signing our Open Letter addressed to Charles Michel (EU Council President) & Ursula von der Leyen (EU Commission President). KEY GOALS: 1. Immediately decongest the Aegean Islands through fair relocation across Member States 2. Respond in a reasoned, peaceful & humane way on the Evros border 3. Reinstate the right to claim asylum in Greece 4. Replace the EU-Turkey Deal with a fair, humane EU Migration Policy 5. Advocate for dignified & legal conditions of reception across Europe 6. Raise awareness of unfolding human rights issues across Europe, Turkey & Syria WHAT ARE WE DOING? Since March 1st 2020, we have written an Open Letter to EU Leaders demanding the immediate decongestion of the Aegean Islands. We have collected signatures from over 150 NGOs and 82,000 individuals. We also have the support of 11 MEPs. We have united different categories of EU society together around one call for change. We organised 10 Days of Online Activism (amidst the coronavirus outbreak). With Coordinators based in 6 European cities, we gathered a mass of online support from all over Europe to mark the 4-year anniversary of the EU Turkey Deal. Each Coordinator developed a City Chapter (CCs) & collaborated with other NGOs, CSOs, Politicians & other CCs. Action was localised to their location, but all united around our core principles & the hashtag #EUMustAct. We are monitor & report on the latest developments across Europe regarding migration & asylum. As we bear witness to this Humanitarian Crisis, we share the truth. We are litigating for Human Rights at the highest level.
