Woensdagmarkt
N/A
There is a statue of Hans Memling (1430-1494) located in the small Woensdagmarkt in the city of Bruges. This monument was erected in 1874 and is a nice depiction of the German born artist dressed in period attire with cape standing in a straightforward pose. Memling moved from Germany to Flanders and went on to become a critically important Early Netherlandish painter. In addition to finding his works in museums throughout Europe, you will fin impressive Memling works at Groeninge Museum and St. John's hospital (also known as the Memling Museum). In the end, this particular statue is a bit isolated but worth seeking out if you are a fan of Hans Memling or enjoy statue and monument viewing during your travels.

This is one of the many hidden squares in Bruges. Walk around aimlessly and you'll bounce upon one of them. This is what makes Bruges so wonderful: many hidden, unreported marvels.
