UAntwerp Solar Boat Team is rated 3 out of 5 in the category shipbuilding. Read and write reviews about UAntwerp Solar Boat Team. The Uantwerp Solar Boat Team, is a team of motivated engineering students at the faculty of Applied Engineering Sciences at the University of Antwerp. Since the start of this project in 2007-2008, each year the team does research about sustainable energy in combination with transport on the water. Hence the reason why we are building a boat which is solely powered by solar energy. In the meanwhile, the team is at its fifth boat. This boat has been specifically designed for hydrofoils. These so-called hydrofoils are the future for the team. A hydrofoil can be compared to an airplane wing. At a high enough speed, these foils will lift the boat out of the water. When the boat is lifted out of the water, there will be less friction. With this project we want to contribute to the movement that makes people aware of alternative options for energy supply. Creating as much publicity around our project as possible is the way to go. To achieve this we’re participating in several fairs, competitions and we have our own networking event.
