I first went in during a school trip in 1960. I have happy nostalgic memories of the old gentleman who ran the shop in 1968 when I returned and I mentioned my first visit. I went in on my last day in Bruges and he wished me a safe return and made the sign of the cross. I am not Catholic but i was deeply touched. I do not know if the same family own the shop but I will always remember that day.
They had the best hoodies at reasonable prices. Proprietor was reserved but not rude.
Worst service and attend I ever had on Belgium. Went to buy a souvenir and could not buy anything because it seams he doesn't like tourists. I went to another store close buy and was able to buy what I need it.
I went to the store to purchase a map. The store clerk apparently took exception to me not saying hello, nor did he take into consideration that I may not have heard him. He proceeded to insult me, and lecture me in a condescending manner about the evils of individualism. So I decided to leave and buy the map that I needed from another store nearby. The store clerk acted shock that someone would exercise that right, rather than listen to his lecture. It may be a good store for a few, but be careful of who is minding the till. Edit: Saw your response, and afraid your the one not telling the full story. I walked in and asked for the best map you have of the city. I did not see you serving any other customers, but if you had told me that was the case, I would have gladly waited. Rather, you went on a diatribe before I had a chance to say anything else.
Funny, I had a friend write last night, from Brugge, as she is on a bike barge tour starting in Brugge. I wrote her back about Maison MORET as I was there in July of 1972, as a 17 year old high school kid. I bought three beer steins as gifts from this shop. I still remember the lady running the store each day. She treated me really well. Yes, this was 46 years ago, but I am glad to see the store is still there. I have in my hand a business card from the store and on the back, the lady wrote my purchase on it, for that day, July 27, 1972, as today is July 27, 2018. I still have 2 of those Beer Steins made in West Germany. Pleasant memories of the store and Brugge. Mike
Wonderful shop and very nice owner.
