Well worth a visit to contrast the setup of a German cemetery compared with the Commonwealth equivalent. The names of the fallen are inscribed on wood inside building. You will find pill boxes and all sorts of monuments here. Needs more TLC.

One of the many cemeteries of those lost during WWI. This one contains fallen Germans, and is visually district from the those in the region that are maintained by the CWGC. There is a lot of really beautiful elements that are there purposefully to honour the fallen.

Somewhat starker and sombre than most of The Allied cemeteries in the area but this does give it a distinctive feel and presence. It is made up mainly of mass graves bearing the names of those buried there. In recent years much has been done to improve its overall appearance and a car park has been provided to cope with increasing numbers of visitors.

A somber cemetery where around 45000 German soldiers are laid to rest. It is well maintained with lots of variety to see. A stark contrast to the British cemeteries all around which we have visited.

Luckily I wasn't there on 1943, while they were having war on Christmas... While Easy Company lost a few hundred men there, but at least they reach Germany! CURRAHEE!

We visited several cemeteries when visiting Ypres and I hold this one as the most beautiful one. It's really simple with nothing to steal the attention of your eyes from the countless names upon the tombstones.

I am so glad I visited here with my son. It is a sobering reminder of the innocent who fell on both sides. I will remember this place forever and glad we now call them friends.

A sad and reflective place to contemplate the pity of war. Seeing the pit that contains the bones of 20,000 German youth collected after the First Battle of Ypres is sad enough. But to learn from the history placards on site that the mothers of the fallen had to protest to the Kaiser to even have their children's remains collected and interred filled me with an anger against those who see their people solely as an instrument to further their own power.
