The Mons Memorial Museum is a military museum with exhibitions of wars and battles which involved the city of Mons. The museum has a large and varied collection of uniforms, arms and smaller items all the way from the middle ages through to the 20th century. Although pre-modern conflicts are covered, there’s a special emphasis on the two world wars, which were so devastating for Belgium. The narrative of the museum is fairly apolitical documenting testimonies from soldiers, from both sides of these conflicts. I especially enjoyed the videos of how the territories of Belgium changes hands over time, which beats descriptions any day. Like they say, a picture can paint a thousand words. Definitely worth visiting if in Mons

I've visited many military museums. They either concentrate on the global history of war or the technical advancements which affected the outcome. Mons Memorial Museum focuses on the lives of the people affected by the in the conflict. The soldiers on both sides, the lives of the people living under occupation, the difficult decisions that they had to make. I've visited several times. With my kids, with a German girlfriend and with a serving US soldier. Each was illuminating in its own way.

A very well put together museum. It covers from Before WWI through WWII. You can cover the whole museum in roughly an hour depending on your pace. It has a lot of original pieces of history and a very interesting VR experience, in which you can see viewpoints of both the Axis and the Allies.
