This monument stands in tribute to the Belgian soldiers who fought and died in the two world wars. The monument takes the form of an obelisk, standing on a pedestal. At the front of the pedestal is a figure of winged Nike, spreading her wings protectively around soldiers a group of soldiers marching forward. Above this sculptural ensemble is the obelisk topped with the royal crown of Belgium. Just below the crown are four soldiers standing guard around it, symbolising the soldiers duty to protect the nation and crown.

A very nice monument! The design and architecture are impressive! The view from near by platform is amazing. On a sunny day you can see from there the Atomium! There is a public elevator to get down and enjoy the narrow streets, and nice buildings from around! If you do not know very well the town it is a good landmark for orientation.
