With the creation of “Energy Climate House”, CEPS has established within its own institute a centre of excellence for EU energy and climate change policy issues. Against the evolving energy environment, the most salient challenges facing the energy sector as well as other sectors, notably due to climate change, will be authoritatively analysed from a pan-European and policy-oriented perspective and addressed in a global context. The need for ECH was addressed by Maroš Šefčovič, Vice-President for Energy Union in his speech at the Ideas Lab: "I also very much welcome the setting into place of CEPS Energy Climate House – we need such venture to sustain momentum on the important energy and climate challenges ahead of us"​. To date, Europe is home to a number of institutes specialising in energy or climate change as well as the geopolitics of oil and gas. Many excellent centres operate in a national context, notably in the electricity sector, but their focus is not on the EU nor do they offer a global perspective. Energy Climate House will provide a forum that stimulates discussions among both EU and non-EU stakeholders and decision-makers and where the participants feel free to: - discuss, - analyse and - communicate solutions to today’s energy, climate change and geopolitical challenges.
