Are you stressing out? Then do elope to ‘Boekenberg park.’ Allow me to cut to the chase. Summer blesses our Belgian shores for a brief span of two, maybe three months at the most. So when the sun is shining, we crawl out of our prehistoric caves to satisfy our urge for a chlorine-free swim. Hence, I prefer this natural setting. This small body of water is one of Europe’s biggest ecological swimming ponds. It is located a bit outside our enchanting city centre, but you can easily get there using public transportation. Tram four or nine are your best options. Just make sure that you get off at the stop that is named Cruyslei. It is well worth the jaunt. The entrance is free, but when it is crowded you can only stay in the water for approximately 15 minutes at a time. The limited number of swimmers can be a bit of a disappointment at times, but remember that happiness is only real when shared. Don’t be a diva! Any time of the year, you can also enjoy a relaxing walk in the green wealth, referred to as ‘Boekenberg Park’ that surrounds this escape. So bring the right gear, claim your spot on the grass and enjoy this delightful environmental friendly pool. Usually you can go for a swim from mid-May until mid-September.

A biological swimming pool, no chemicals, no fees, only sometimes annoying, sometimes usefull lifeguards. Also the lockers and changing rooms are free of charge, only need a 2 euro coin, which is returned upon checking out. Enjoy the swim people, keep it clean and comfortable. And yes, the water is kinda cold.

Another great find for a jump into the cold water on an extremely hot summer day!

Beautiful little pool with a nice area around a small chateau. Excellent brunch buffet in the chateau before doing rounds of dips in the pool. On crowded days, be ready to rotate 15 minute shifts with a small waiting line to get into the pool!

Very nice, clean and maintained. Don't even try to go with normal swimming shorts because they are really strict about that. If you don't have right one, you can buy them there for 16 euros. Can be crowded.

Lovely big swimming pond with good provision of lockers for 2 euro and clean bathrooms. Grass and trees for picnicking and sun tanning. Very busy with lots of children. Arrive at 12am for gate opening to avoid long queues to swim.
